Oratorio in Denmark, Recitals in Lithuania
Three upcoming firsts for me: my first trip to Lithuania, my first masterclass as the “master,” and my first Dichterliebe. In early December, pianist Justas Servenikas and I will travel to three cities, ending with Vilnius. The rest of the program will include songs by Schubert, Barber, and Bolcom. (Incidentally, I have made one previous appearance in Vilnius–on film. Lithuanian director Romas Zabarauskas recently showed his new film, We Will Riot, to an enthusiastic crowd. For 0.6 seconds, I play a waiter with a strict interpretation of the dress code.)
On either side of this trip lie two of the greatest “holiday concerts” ever written: Bach’s Chrismtas Oratorio and, of course, Handel’s Messiah. Both concerts take place in Copenhagen with conductor Torsten Mariegaard.
